Philadelphia 7^th July 1798. Sir On receipt of this letter you will please to send to Portland, alias Casco Bay in the province of Main to the address of M^r Samuel Weeks Merchant at that place — Two hundred Muskets compleat, two hundred Cartouch Boxes, One hundred Gun Worms, Ten Thousand Musket Cartridges, suitable for the Muskets ordered, Twenty eight Barrels Cannon Powder, and two barrels of fine Musket Powder for priming and two Brass six pounders with Carriages and implements compleat with the 196 strapped shot for six pounders which by your return is on hand — The mode of transporting I must leave to you — If their is any intercourse between Hartford and Portland by water that will undoubtedly be the best and readiest way to get them forward, but if that is not the case and delay or long detention will probably be the consequence of waiting for an opportunity to ship them from thence they had better be sent to Providence or Boston and forwarded from thence to their destination — You will [however] avail yourself of the best and most expeditious route, and let me hear from you on the subject as early as possible — The Muskets you forward may be of any kind in store except the Charleville for they are reserved for the army and must be kept for that purpose — You will please to send twelve thousand five hundred Musket Cartridges to New-Port Rhode Island to the address of Archibald Evary Esq^r Merchant of that place.
