Shepherdstown July 5^th 1798 Sir Yours Letter of the 9^th Ult did not reach this [undecipherable] until the 3 Inst — I cannot account for this delay — I have this day written to Capt Richard S. Blackburn informing him that I shall immediately forward the Body [undecipherable] to him & [undecipherable] reminding him of his [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] them of the cause of his delay I forwarded to [undecipherable] Receipt some time since as also Several other amounts — I have received from [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Lewis the Store, in his possession, his charges for Storage & from [undecipherable] of April 1797 — Forty Dollars — he insists, I must [undecipherable] that, sum that he looks to me for payment — Some of the Articles are much injured, particularly the Blankets, the Muskets [and?] Bayonets are also in a bad [undecipherable] — I have enclosed a [undecipherable] of those their [undecipherable], together with the Waggoner's Receipt for payment of transportation from Georgetown to this Store — I have taken the liberty to draw on you in favor of Matthew Carey, Philadelphia for Two Hundred and Thirty Dollars, at Ten days sight, which I assure you [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] they have been on account of the [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to the States — Maj: [undecipherable] has not yet returned — every thing remains with respect to the enquiries in [undecipherable] of the 12^th May as at the date of my letter — but of course I shall make every exertion to forward the [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] immediately and give the [undecipherable] [undecipherable].
