Mr Hills forwarded a deposition of George Oliver relative to arrearages of pay due him— This I am also at a loss to check, evidence of his inlistment or pay due him being in this Office— If his oath is corroborated by attendant circumstances so as to induce you to act on it— I see no reason why this soldier should not receive his pay— at any rate he may receive it from the day he joined his present Company and the back pay may be deferrd until further information can be obtained—
I am aware of the pressure of Public business that must of necessity devolve on you— but from the deranged state of accounts in your quarter I am led to be the more anxious to have them arranged— and I trust you will lose no time in accomplishing this desirable object—
