A doubt having arisen with me whether an Officer doing the duty of Adjutant & Pay master to a Battalion in the Corps of Artillerists & Engineers, as provided for in the act of the 10 May 1794, organizing that Corps, is entitled to the pay & forage allowed by previous acts to an Officer in addition to his pay in the line for doing such duty to a regiment — I have therefore to request that you will be pleased to cause a decision by the Attorney General, to that effect in order to guide me in my Settlements — Sam^d W.
