Sir—
I must pray you to stay proceedings against John Jacob Faiesch &Co as an examination of his Casting for the Public has been submitted to my inspection and decision whether or not they ought to be received. I gave Mr Faiesch reason to expect me when the castings were, timely to prevent the threatened consequences, a variety of business has hitherto prevented my going, but I hope to be able to proceed in a week or two—

Before Mr Ellis's duplicate account herewith handed you can be paid, it is proper he should make Oath, that the original account said to be lost is still missing, that he hath never himself or by any other person received any part of the amount; that the whole is justly due, and ought to be paid by the United States, and that if ever the lost account should come to his hand or knowledge, he will deposit it, or cause it to be deposited in the Treasury of the United States.
