[Dwight Foster Esq^r Chairman of the Committee of Claims] Accountants Office June 27, 1796 Sir I have received your letter of the 26 Inst^t enclosing a memorial of John Skey Eustace wherein he claims the half pay or commutation allowed by acts of Congress to certain Description of Officers who served in the late american army — I have therefore agreeably to your wish investigated his claim and find from the books & documents in this Office that he has been settled with in full in nominal money for his pay and subsistence as a Lt Col^t & Major from the commencement of his services up to the 27 January 1780 the day his resignation was accepted by Congress, after which period it does not appear he ever bore any commission under the General Government. It also appears that he petitioned Congress on the 26^th May 1780 for the depreciation of his pay and that the following is a copy of their resolution — Resolved, That the request contained in the memorial of John Skey Eustace late a Major in the army of the United States, to be allowed the benefits of the resolution of the 10 April last, for making good to the army the deficiency of their original pay, occasioned by the depreciation of the continental Bills of Credit, cannot be granted — I am &^c W.
