Sir:

I must again trespass on your goodness by requesting you to send four of the twenty four pounders remaining at Providence to Portland in the district of Main to the address of Lemuel Weeks Merchant in that place. By a letter received from that Gentleman we are informed he has a Brig at Providence returning to Portland which will take them in, should she be there at the receipt of this letter, you will have no more trouble than barely shipping the, should she have sailed you will please to find some other Vessel bound to the same place and put them on board her.

I am Sir

With Sentiments of esteem Your most Obedient Servant

Samuel Hodgdon

Description

Hodgdon asks Elliot to send four 24 pound guns to Lemuel Weeks in Portland. Mr. Weeks has a brig currently at Providence bound for Portland which can carry the guns, so Elliot only needs to move the guns from their present location to the ship. If Week's ship has already sailed, Elliot should find another vessel bound for Portland to convey the guns.
