Savannah,
26th June 1798.
Sir
I have received a letter from Colo. Pope — he will be here on the 5th of next month — He has not any of the rolls included in the Estimate you have transmitted. I shall not therefore be able to do any thing with him.
Capt. Faucherotts were sent by himself with a petition to Congress — Randolph's & Girardeau's must be [strikethrough: in your] office, or in my trunk — I have been Collins, Whorton & Vanchent here — Lieut Tappington & McGillis have been paid — the rest of the small rolls must also be in your office.
I have heard that an appropriation has been made, by Congress, to discharge the militia rolls which were transmitted in December 1794, and about which there has been so much Trouble; if this should be the case, I request you will urge the Secretary of War to order me to Philadelphia to receive the money, as I shall want particular instructions from you relatively to them.
I am with great esteem
Sir
Your most Obedient
humble Servant
