Sir I received your letter of the 6 Instt Enclosing Recipt Rolls for pay of yourself & detachment from 1 January to 30 April 1798 inclusive which have been examined & the result is as follows
Total amount agreeably to your additions . - - - 1023.93.
To which add short addition on the Receipt rolls for Jany 30. — 1053
From which deduct this sum Overaddued on the March role - - 12
which leaves an amount of One Thousand forty three Dollars & [undecipherable]
which will be entered to your Credit on the Books of this Office —
The advance of pay that you made to Shelton for which he did not receipt previous to his desertion must be considered at your own risk —
any back pay that was due him is by law forfeited to the U. S.
Lieutt Saunders left this City to join your command before your letter came to hands consequently he will receipt to yourself for his pay —
