War Office. 11th June. 1798.
Sir,
I was not unmindful of your request, respecting the French and English Colours, but immediately upon my return to the Office, mentioned to Mr Francis, your want of them; and procured the Secretarys orders to him to [strikethrough: provide] furnish them — they are not procured yet by him, to a greater extent than an English Ensign — In the Absence of the Secretary, who has this morning set out for New York — I have ventured to send out myself for them — such as are procured I will annex a schedule of — and they will be delivered by Mr Hulecamp Pilot.
The Pilot waits — I have of course only time to say, the film is daily falling from more eyes, Sir — close 2d of [undecipherable: Fennis's?] last papers — and have directed Mr Hulecamp — to call on Mrs Dale for her commands — she is, I am happy to say, from the report of one of your friends — as well as can be expected —
Captn R. Dale — I am Sir
with the sincerest respect
your obedient
humble servant
John Caldwell
