Your letters of the 1st instant with their Enclosures are received. Major Swan says all his Boxes are received. —
The Commander in Chief and his suit have embarked this morning and will be under way in a few minutes — the Galley to lead the Van, and followed by Six large flat bottomed boats, a few barge Several small crafts. The hurry occasioned by this Embarkation allows me but a moment to write.
Since last post I have found it necessary to make several [strikethrough: drafts] drafts on you, viz. On the 2d in favor of Elias Brevoort at ten days sight for 80 dollars, On the 7th in favor of John Neville for 1000 dollars at ten days, same day in favor of James Wilkinson at fifteen days for 100 dollars & this day in favor of Abner & Jesse Barker for 1000 dollars at eight days & in favor of David Wallace for 400 dollars at fifteen days — the amount of these several drafts is 2580 dollars which be pleased to pay and charge as usual.
A Quantity of Oakum is immediately wanted, nearly all of that already received being expended. An asortment of Augurs is also wanted & of that kind the Ship Carpenters call pod Augurs — Spike Gimblets and files are also much wanted.
William Bradshaw requests that no further Payments may be made to Catharine Bradshaw, nor to any other person on his account.
