Sir, Since writing you last, I have learnt from the Hontle James Warren Esquire that the light 18 pounders mentioned to you on a former occasion as a de:sirable acquisition for the frigate Constitution, are really the property of the [underline: United States]. — That they were imported from France in the Alliance frigate for another vessel of war then about to be built and that they were delivered to Mr Hodgson the Commissary of Military Stores. — Mr Warren was, during the late war, chairman of a Navy Board established in the New England States by the United States, and well remem:bers the facts here stated. — Application has been made to the Governor of the State, for the Cannon, in in consequence of your Letter to him — But he being somewhat indisposed, was not able yesterday to take any measures thereon, but no doubt he will cordially loan them according to your request.
