Philadelphia June 3^d 1798.— Sir I do myself the pleasure to inform you that when I left Detroit the 12^th of last November on furlough, I deposited my Baggage, Regimental Books, and vouchers for the Pay, Forage and Subsistence of the first Subdegion, and Regiment from the 1^st January 96 to the 30 September 1797, with Col^o D. Strong Commandant of that Post from whence it will afford me great pleasure to transmit them to your Office for a final adjustment as soon as I arrive at Detroit. At the same time I left there, several seperate Receipts, which will apply to the discharge of the balance of D^rs 1583.93 which appears to be in my hands for Absentees &c &c agreeably to the Statement of my account Current in your Office on the 28^th Ult^o and in addition thereto I have a receipt for the Pay & Forage of D^r Elliot for D^rs 220.— for the months of June, July, August & September 1795.— These several Separate receipts Sir would have been presented to you with my other vouchers, if absolute hurry & accidents had not prevented it. I shall industriously improve every opportunity to forward all vouchers to your Office in future, to the end that proper credits may be given me on your Books. The sums remaining in my hands for absentees shall be ascertained as soon as possible & you made acquainted with the amount, so that it may be applied to your order, or refunded to the Pay Master General.
