Philadelphia 1st June 1798 Sir, You have long since been acquainted that several Post Notes of the United States Bank amounting to seven hundred and seventy Dollars twenty five Cents forwarded by me to Mr. Holson Public account–were lost by [undecipherable] failures in the Post Office. Application has been made to the Bank for their renewal and information has beenn given to the Treasury in every stages of the business how it progressed the refulsal of the Bank to issue other Certificates has been considered and reported on by the Comptroller who is of opinion that Bank must make them good. In the mean time the Money is wanted to wind up the business of the Post and is accordingly drawn for in favor of Mr. Perkins The Secretary of the Treasury says the draft ought to be paid and recommends a requisition for the purpose, with the foregoing information.
