[Majr Isaac Craig / 25^th May 1798 / Recd 1^st June] Pittsburg May 25^th 1798 Sir, Your letter of the 18^th instant, accompanied by sundry Papers Herein mentioned, has this moment come to hand. The letter to Governor Sergeant shall be sent forward without delay. Your advances to the Ship Carpenters' Families will be charged to them and placed to your credit. With respect to [undecipherable] purchased by you for Captain John Heth, as per your bill received this day 79 ¹⁵/100 dollars and which you say is charged to me, You will please to recollect that Captain Heth's draft on William Jennison for a sum sufficient to purchase the articles was transmitted to you, enclosed in my letter of the 9^th of June 1797 and which I presume was paid notwithstanding [undecipherable: his neglect] to endorse the draft as mentioned in your letter of the 15^th [of the] same month. Eleven Bales and one Box Chickasaw Indian goods have been received agreeable to the Waggoners [undecipherable] and are detained here by Order of the Commander in Chief until the back Invoices come forward, as the Goods cannot be distributed to the Indians without them. You will therefore, if you have not already done it, send these Invoices forward [immediately]. Since last post day I have found it necessary to make several drafts on you in order to enable me to discharge the Many claims against the Quarter Master Department [viz.]. One on the 19^th in favor of Elizabeth Henderson at ten days sight for 600 dollars, Two on the 22^d in favor of [undecipherable] & [undecipherable] Hunt at ten days for Five hundred & in [favor of] John Kerr at twenty days for 440 dollars, [Three?] on this [day] of 500 dollars each — to James Hogg one at fifteen [undecipherable] twenty days & one to John Calhoon at ten days I have this day transmitted addressed to you two packets containing Vouchers for issues of Stores at Pittsburg for Nine Months up to the first of April 1798 together with abstracts of Receipts and [issues] during that period. On the 19^th instant the Galley President Adams was launched and is now at anchor in the Alleghany [River,] will be completely fitted out in a few days and will I am confident be as fine a vessel of her burthen & construction as the United States [possesses].
