War department 18. May 1798
Sir,
I have received yesterday evening your letter of the 10 instant Orders will be immediately given to have the medicines for the Garrisons of Detroit and Michilimackinac Presque Isle and Fort Fayette [undecipherable] agreeably to your lists and sent forward to Pittsburg to the Quarter Master.
The Galley is to be removed and rendered useful. You will of course as soon as she is ready to fall down the Ohio have her manned and stationed [strikethrough: where she will be most serviceable and may enter the Mississippi at the shortest notice.] You will also consider her under your power for all public & military purposes as much as the Troops you command.
You have done right respecting the heavy guns and Chickasaw Goods—
It appears by a letter from Major Kersey dated Chickasaw Bluff 19 January that his men were almost destitute of Clothing. You will see that all wants of the kind on the Mississippi are provided for out of the deposit at Massac, of which you have had information, or any
