The Indian Goods are not yet all come to hand nor are the Trucks for the [undecipherable] so much wanted. Major Kirkpatrick is arrived and to my mortification informs me that my Commissary account was not paid and for what reason he [is] not able to give a very satisfactory account. Why was that the only Commissary account unsettled? It amounts to a very serious disappointment to me as I had appropriated eleven hundred dollars of the Balance due on that account to refund Col. [undecipherable] a part of the sum paid by him, for me, into the land office, [in] which I am to pay Interest. I have, therefore, to beg of you [undecipherable] to use every possible Means of obtaining payment of the Commissary account, as well as the account on James [undecipherable] & [undecipherable] In the mean time I have also to beg of you to pay Col. [undecipherable] the sum that he has advances for me in order that Interest may cease. I have found it necessary this day (in order to raise cash for which there is now a very extensive demand) made three drafts on you, viz, One in favor of George Stephenson for three hundred [fifty?] dollars and one in favor of John Wemshell for three hundred dollars at eight days sight and also in favor of James [undecipherable: Hogg?] for five hundred dollars at fifteen days sight — these several drafts please pay and charge as usual.
