War Department 11 May 1795
Sir.
I have your letter of the 4th instant
It would appear, under present circumstances, that Fort Washington or Cinci... will be a more [undecipherable] position for your Head Quarters, than where it now is. This [strikethrough: while it] change [undecipherable] you nearer to the Missisippi, will enable you to forward with more rapidity such [undecipherable] to the Eastern bank of our Territory, as a threatened invasion, or any hostile attempts upon it may render proper and necessary. In this view of things I have it in command to direct you to repair thither as soon as your arrangements will admit.
The stipends for the Indians intended for Fort Wayne may fall down the Ohio, at the same time you do, and be committed to the escort you mention.
I am Sir with great respect.
your most Obt.

Brig. Gen. Jas. Wilkinson.
