Sir I was duly favoured with your letter of the 2^d instant, and received by the same post the remittance therein announced, which has remained in my hands until this morning, when Lieutenant Hodges called at my Office and desired to receive one thousand dollars, being instructed by the Secretary of War not to draw the whole Sum, but to take it in portions as might be necessary.
