Received June 29 1798 of William Simmons Accountant a Warrant N^o 2967 for five hundred dollars being for so much paid under the orders of Benj^o Hawkins Principal Tempor­ary Agent for Indian affairs South of the Ohio, for the assistants in his Department for the years 1797 & 1798. for which sum the Secretary of War directs that the said Benj^o Hawkins to be accountable $500.— [signature: A. Bisland] Exchange for 500 dollars— [undecipherable] 4^th May 1798 At thirty days sight of this my first of exchange second of the same tenor and date not paid pay to Alexander Bisland of Philadelphia Merchant or order five hundred dollars on account of that sum paid under the orders of the Principal Temporary agent for Indian affairs south of the Ohio for the assistant in his department for the years 1797 and 1798 and for which I have his drafts on me as United States factor Edw.
