Colonel [undecipherable] the Senate has a Bill on me from the Quarter master for [undecipherable] dollars which he wishes to have paid to them tomorrow. I have received your letter of the 15 Instant. I will try to procure a Bill now of [undecipherable] I will send it to you. The claim can be examined as soon as current business permits— your draft shall meet due honour. With respect to the memo. of stating my payments on your account I have first directed you have them before you: No notice has been taken of Estimates more than to Govern those payments they are not appear in my Books, you are simply charged with sums paid you to each period you mention— I am sorry the Secretary has not complied with your just expectations relative to your pay— but I endeavour to make arrangements to pay [undecipherable] Interest, but nothing can be done until the Appropriation Bill [undecipherable: probable reading: complies]. It will be best for you to draw on me as favours I trust on the amount you wish to have paid. When this is done I have from the Secretary of war to pay the amount you desire as above advised to him.
