Major John Lynn Cumberland, Maryland, Sir The papers enclosed in your letter 12 Jan^y last have been compared with the Pay rolls on which received the advances for the pay of the Individuals composing Battalions, to the time they engaged in the 6 month service and many instances appear to be nothing more than mere copies of rolls — The documents necessary to exonerate you from those advances should have been the genuine receipts of the Individual claimants, presuming that these cannot now be obtained, I have in order to close your account, framed an affidavit (annexed to a paper enclosed) which you will be pleased to attest to and return to this Office with the sum of nine Dollars (being a balance from you to the United States) in order to exonerate you for the monies you received for the above purpose — The balance arises from Jonathan Harris (deserter) & Michael Donohoe (dead) belonging to felton's Comp^y —
