Letter from the Accountant of the War Department
Document 1798Simmons provides a balance to Sehon of the account for payments to Colonel Cresap's Regiment of Virginia Militia during the Whiskey Rebellion.
Mr. John L Sehon Moorfield, to the care of Mr. Edward Smith, Winchester Va. Accounts Office April 16, 1798 Sir Your account for payments made to Colo Daniel Cresaps Regt of Virginia Militia, being for their services on the Western Expedition in the Year 1794 for one month commencing the 24 Augst 1794 has been examined & stands thus - Dr John L Sehon, P. M. to Cresaps Regt in a/c with The United States. To Presley Nevill P.M.G. for this sum rec’d of him for the pay of said Regt from 24th August 94 for 1 Month - 2322.00 By Pay of the Militia Army. For amount of his payments to said Regt for 1 Month commencing 24th Aug 94 - 2317 By Balance due U. S. 5.00 Drs. 2322 It may be proper to remark that the balance of five dollars is a short payment due Lewis Runkle artificer, he being made rep on the Pay Roll Chambers Co. for Drs. 8 & paid Receipt only Drs. 3 Difference 5 Dollars. Which sum you will be pleased to transmit to the Office in order to exonerate you from the advances you received from Colo Neville for the above purpose. I am &c
