[Major Isaac Craig— 13 April 1798 No. 26] [Received from State Dep't.] Pittsburg April 13^th 1798. [No. 62] Your letter of the 6^th instant is come to hand together with the News Papers as usual.— Hamilton is not yet arrived. A considerable number of Workmen are now employed at the Gallies which has added much to the duty of Quarter Master at this post. In order to regulate the attendance of the Ship Carpenters and others employed I have to request you to send, if possible, a small Ship Bell I presume you have got one in your Stores. You will find this accompanied by a General Return of Stores &c. for this post up to the 1^st instant and at Franklin, Le Boeuf and Presqu'isle Stores on hand 1^st March 1798 and a similar Return is transmitted this day to the Secretary of War. On the 10^th instant found it necessary to draw on you at fifteen days sight in favor of Daniel McElheron for eighteen hundred & thirty dollars which be pleased to pay and charge as usual. In my accounts with the late and the present Quarter Master General I have credited them and debited you with the amount of my several Requisitions made on Estimates of Expenditure, and I wish to know if you debit the Quarter Master General in like Manner up to the first of June last. At Major Kirkpatrick's Departure for Philadelphia I put into his hands my account for Services as Deputy Commissary General on which a balance of 1186 Dollars 71½ cents was due. Of which I directed the Major to pay eleven hundred dollars into the hands of Col. Forrest to reimburse him a part of the sum paid for me into the Treasury on account of land in Ohio. But by letter this day received from Col. Forrest I find that my account has not been settled and therefore that sum not paid to Col. Forrest who is anxious to be reimbursed. I have therefore to request you to pay that sum to Col. Forrest in case payment of my Commissary account is not obtained by my Friend Kirkpatrick.
