April 10th 98 [Mathematical Equation: 20 [x] 50 = 1000 [÷] 31 = 32; 1000 - 93[0] = 70 [-] 62 = 800 ÷ 31 [=] 26; 800 [-] 62[0] = 180] Fort McHenry April 7th 98 Dear Sir, Since my last letter to you, Warthan the Soldier, I marked in the pay roll for two months and twenty two days pay which was due to him from the beginning of his enlistment, - died yesterday by the Small pox; I therefore hasten to give you information of it; in order that, you should not send his pay with that of Caleb Malone who was discharged on the 5th instt. I gave him a certificate of all the pay due him which he proposes himself of bringing to you: he received three dollars from me, which receipt I have the honor of inclosing to you.
