The Sec^y of War Accountants Offi[ce] April 6^th 179[9] Sir You will receive herewith in conform[ity to] your letter of the 29 Ult^o enclosing a resolution of Congress of [the] same month — 'a Statement of the expenditures in the War [Office] for the Indian Department, Bounties [&] pensions, protection [of] Inc[ians] & contingent Expenses of the War Department for the Year 1797' continued the expenditures to the 1^st of the present month as far as [they] related to services for the Year 1797 & previous, conceiving that [it was] the intention of the Resolution — lest however it should [be] separate, I have caused them to be distinctly stated & included [in a] general summary — shewing the total amount, which I trust [will] meet your approbation — Sam^ls W Simm[s] Au[ditor]
