Wednesday the 28th of March 1798.
On Motion,
Resolved, that the Secretary at War, directed to lay before this House, a statement, in detail, of the expenditure and application of the Monies appropriated, by law, for the subsistence of the Army, for the Quarter Master's department, the Indian department, bounties, defensive protection of the frontiers, and all the contingent expences of the war department, for the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven, from which have resulted the deficiencies by him stated, in his estimate of the twenty ninth of January last, to amount to the two respective sums of one hundred and fourteen thousand, one hundred and sixty five dollars, and ninety five, twenty and fifty thousand dollars; that he include in the said statement, an estimate of the number of Rations which have been issued, during the same year, at the several posts & garrisons, respectively; and that he also arrange under a number of general heads, the different expenditures incurred in the Quarter Master department, Indian department, and for contingent expences of the War department, respectively.
Resolved, that the Secretary at War be directed to lay before this House, an estimate in detail, of the probable application of the sum to be appropriated for the Quarter Master department for the present year.—
