March 21^st 98 I have rec^d a Letter from Morgan Brown Esq Collector for the District of Tennessee, who resides at Palmyra on the Cumberland River, by which I am satisfied that the Revenue service would be promoted, by the establishment of a small military Post at that place. I [strikethrough: do not] give you this information [strikethrough: with] [strikethrough: a view to] from a desire that the Troops may [strikethrough: be] [strikethrough: detained] retained with a view to [strikethrough: the] point mentioned by M^r Brown [strikethrough: not that] a Post [strikethrough: should be] [strikethrough: at the] Palmyra & weaponry in that quarter, & your objects can be answered by stationing [strikethrough: them] the Troops at Palmyra, his wishes may be [strikethrough: com] [strikethrough: partly] fulfilled — M^r Brown appears to be an intelligent Officer & has been very successful in his collections — & would [strikethrough: execute] I believe execute in a proper manner any [strikethrough: com] commissary Agency for the Troops which you might have occasion to intrust to him.
