Sir Being informed that a large quantity of Plank and other Materials have been taken from the Navy Yard at Portsmouth for the Constitution I beg you will transmit me an exact return of them immediately particularizing them by name and stamping their dimensions I am &c [M^r Caleb Gibbs] --- War Office 20 october 1798 Sir The House of representatives having passed a resolution on the 11th inst requiring information of what materials or appurtenales may be left on board after fitting out the Frigates United States, Constellation & Constitution To enable me to lay the necessary information before them it may be proper that I should be informed as speedily as possible of the exact quantity & description of materials &c that will be left in the Navy yard at Phil^a after fitting the United States for Sea.
