Sir,
I have repeatedly requested an order for one thousand Gun Stocks to be sent to the Public manufactory at Springfield. I wish to know whether the Secretary declines accepting them — the Works are nearly destitute, and loss will probably be experienced — more Iron is also wanted. I conclude the last requisition has not been fully complied with.
