did, in my said letter I requested you to send a proper voucher for the same or an explanation for the same's being receipted for by Joseph Hawkins your letter of the 22d January, last is fully explanatory on this head wherein you say Dougherty had deserted previous to payment & of course Hawkins could not legally receipt for his Dougherty's forfeited pay, consequently his signing for it was a mistake. This authorizes a deduction of 8t which is done from the above amount and leaves the sum of Eleven hundred & ninety three Dollars & six Cents which will be passed to your credit on the Books of this Office —
