The appropriations for 1798, are not yet passed, so soon as they are the amount found due on this letter will be remitted with the December & January pay Sam^l &c Peter & Hagner p^r C^y Ensign Hugh McCall Accountants Office Fort Wilkinson Georgia — March 26^th 1798 Sir In the absence of the Accountant, I have to acknowledge the Receipt of your letter of the 5^th Ul^to with its enclosures — When you were written to on the 23 Nov last on the subject of Cap^t Webbs pay after his derangement It was thought that no allowance would be made without the interposition of Congress, but it has since been determined by the Attorney General that his pay should be paid to him out of the Contingent fund of this Department; I enclose you an extract taken from his communication on the subject. It will however be requisite that Cap^t Webb should state his account from the date of his derangement up to the day of Cap^t Taylors arrival to take command of his Troop which will be certified by the commanding Officer and transmit it to this Office for examination and the amount found due will be remitted to him through the usual channel, no monies now in your hands can be applied to the payment thereof as that is appropriated for certain objects of expenditure in which Contingent fund is included. — It would be agreeable & satisfactory to receive from you an Estimate of the number of Soldiers, whose periods of service expire during the time mentioned by you, with the amount of pay which will be due thereon and as soon as Congress pass the necessary appropriations the amount will be placed in your hands — The amount of the duplicate estimates enclosed in your letter has been remitted to John Habersham Esquire of which you were informed on the 15^th Ul^to Sam^l &c Peter Hagner
