[undecipherable] from [undecipherable] / concerning the Public Horses / March 20 / [undecipherable] Hodgdon] [25] [Address: Samuel Hodgdon / Quarter Master Gen^l] Frederick Town March 13 the 1798 Sir Agreable to your Request I now informe ^you A gentleman The name of Fisk called on me at Baltimore and told me that he had two public horses and had Received them from Judge Miller that he took Sick and took the Stage for Philadelphia and Request it him to deliver them to Some public office, I then gave him my Recept, and then gave the horses in charge To M^r Baker the Contractor a few days aft^r I Saw one of your Clarks at the Stage office and Request it him to inform, that there was two public horses at M^r Bakers after I Received my order, to March to Frederick, I thought it would be Saving to take them along to put them to Some Farmer, on the 7 of March Lieut Dickinson called on me and told me that he had been Informed that I had two public horses that I must have one of them, that he was going to Fort Pitt on public busyness, Inclosed is his Recept, I am Sir your most ob^t & Humble Servant Samuel Hodgdon Esq Peter Shoemaker Serjant N:B the horse that is hear is not fit to be Sold at present he has got the Stampers Running out of his Nostrals PS [Enclosure] Frederick Town March 5 the 1798 Received of Peter Shoemaker a public horse Saddle and Bridle having Signed duplicate Receipts Robert Parkinson Leit.
