Sir, I have thought it advisable to state to you the Cash transactions between us to this date fearful you may draw for the missing money, not a Cent of which is received, tho I have done every thing in my power to obtain payment; at length the Q^r master General assures me I shall have his definitive answer whether it may be longer expected to be found in his Office on or before the first of next month. the dead letters are all in, but it will take him time to overhaul them. the most I dare to forbear to hear any thing on the subject until that is determined. I am sensible it has been and still is an unfortunate business but yet hope it will end without loss to any one; at all events it must be suspended until the first of April — the estimate for Janu^ry is received at the accountants Office.
