Sir,
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 6th instant, advising me that the Treasurer of the United States would remit me the sum of three thousand five hundred dollars. This he has accordingly done in a draft on the Bank of the United States on the Cashier of the Office of Discount and Deposit at Charleston for the said amount. I shall pay the same to Lieut Colonel Commandant Henry Gaither for the use of the recruiting service, and take his receipts for the due application thereof.
