Sir I received your letter of the 14^th Instant enclosing the receipts therein mentioned which have undergone the same examination as well as your former transmissin of vouchers & the balance due you is found to be eighty six Dollars & 4/100. which sum you will draw from John Chester Esquire supervisor at Wethersfield on your giving him the necessary receipts for the same — you will observe that this amount is sixty three Dollars & 4/100 less than stated by you arising from the following causes, you charge four rations subsistence in lieu of 2 per day from 10^th July to 31 December 1797 the act of Congress allowing double rations to Officers commanding Forts & Garrisons does not extend to such as are recruiting at a rendezvous; this deduction amounts to fifty eight Dollars & eighty two Cents, you charge four Dollars per annum for enlisting Fife & Drum which is inadmissable as they Deserted before they were mustered the purpose of payment for twenty two Cents receipted by Aaron Dean not being expressed renders it also inadmissable if you have the said receipt herein mentioned to you; you charge fifty Cents paid to Charles Hutchins more than the receipts for — Sam^l &^c W Simmons Acc^t John Chester Esq^r Supervisor Wethersfield, Connect^t Accountants Office February 24^th 1798.
