April Ans^d.] [Address panel: William Simmons Esq^re Accountant [undecipherable] Philadelphia] Detroit 20 Feby 1799 Sir, Yours of the 24^th Nov^r 97 I received on the 3^d Instant — on inspection of [undecipherable] pay due Avon Williston, the last pay he received of me was for the months of June, July, August & September 1795 he died the 24 April 96. previous to any other payment being made, consequently he was left blank on the [undecipherable] — he has pay [undecipherable] from the 1^st of October 95 to the 24 April 96 the date of his death — I should have forwarded my accounts long before this, had in expectation of a furlough the meaning arising for the purpose of making a final Settlement. has been the reason of the delay. I wrote you a g to the Commander in Chief for leave of absence, but have received no Answer — but as all furloughs are in future to be granted by the Secretary of war, I shall make application to him. Tho^s & Col. Strong will thank you for your influence — By Col Strong's direction I have forwarded to you Muster Rolls for the months of Oct^r, Nov^r & Dec^r 97 & Jan^ry 98 one I expect is intended for M^r Swan Pay Master Gen^l — also a set of Pay Rolls for Oct^r Nov^r & Dec^r 97 of the troops which compose this Garrison — by which you may judge what money will be necessary for the pay of this post — I have left Ens^ns Schuyler & Glen blank not knowing the date of their acceptance — Subsistence is generally due the Officers of this Garrison — I am Sir Your obedient Servant A.
