Feb^y [17]9[0] Sir, I have this moment been informed that my little draft on you had not been duly honored — The Bill was altogether predicated on the advice of M^r Turner together with an assurance from him that you woud not hesi tate to negit it — On this ground I felt myself perfectly safe in the measure knowing as I did that M^r Sargeant was obligated both in law & honor to save Cap^t Turner from any inconvenience on a[ccount of] the debt in question and I am persuaded nothing but mere inadvertence can have prevented Col^o Sargeant from having amply & expressly provided for its discharge — The only person on whom my Claim rests is Cap^t Turner & from him I had right to expec[t] the money in this place on the [Bank.] Nevertheless for his accommodation I consented to draw on you & have already incurred a loss of 8/9 [Cent] on the am^t — Under these circumstan ces I can[not] hope Sir, you may yet think it expedient & proper to save me the disgrace of returning the very small draft in question — At any rate should you think proper to discharge it I will hold myself obligated to remit you the same sum with interest & damages, in case Col^o Sargeant should not in all respects sanction the measure — I am Sir y^r Ob^t Serv^t Sam^l Hodgdon Esq^r Geo.
