Sending Gun Stocks & Iron When the River Opens
Document 1798So many of the gun stocks on hand are unfit for use that replacements should be sent from either New York or Philadelphia at the earliest opportunity. There are no seasoned ones currently in Springfield. The remainder of the iron should be sent from Hartford by water as soon as the river opens. It should be of the thin kind since a great proportion of that on hand is the thick kind.

Sir
The gun stocks that I wrote you [of?] we should be in want of I wish may be sent at the time and place if practicable — there being so many of these on hand unfit for use that tis necessary they should be ready to prevent loss of time — If they can't to be had in Philadelphia, can't they be in Newyork — there is no seasoned ones to be had here.
The remainder of the Iron that remains to be sent here I should be glad might be sent as soon as the river opens so as to admit of its being brought from Hartford here by water — I wish it may all be of the wide thin kind — [strikethrough: there] As we have a grate proportion of the thick on hand.
I am
With respect and esteem
your most humble
Servant
