Richmond Barracks 12^th Feby 1798. Sir/ Your letter of the 30^th ultimo & 1^st Inst. I had the honour of receiving by the last post, I have received from Col. Carrington Supervisor of Virginia, the sum of Two hundred Dollars on account of the Recruiting Service, I have paid to him duplicate Receipts for the same — Enclosed you will receive Duplicate Receipts signed by my late Recruits, amounting to 23. Dollars 75¢. Also Pay Rolls, for pay due my men for the months of December & January last, that is. for those men that were in Service previous to the 1^st of December, & the men inlisted since, are taken up from the date of their respective inlistments. As my Troops have been duly mustered, Inspected, & the Rolls sent out to the War Office I have thought proper to inclose Pay Rolls, in order that the pay may come forward, when ever the Secy of War may think proper to order it — The receipts, rec^d by you, for money paid to Musicians, I would thank you to file, as I entertain no doubt but that the time will be paid to my Credit on settlement.
