Sir, I have received your letter of the 3^d instant — I am sorry the weather shou have tester you humanity as a man, or you juice as an officer, but the severity of the season being the sole reason, why you have not received the mens Cloathing, you must endeavour to compose yourself. — The Cloathing is yet lying onboard the vessel, and ice bound; the circumstance is painful to myself — I have maintained the propriety of a larger supply, and have reason to believe the secretary will order it— of this you should be advised — yours — Samuel Hodgdon. Staats Morris — This is: 9 February 1793 Sir, Since the 20^th fifteen suits of Cloathing with knapsacks, canteens &c have been packed, an in aiding for an opp[ortunity] to get them up the river to Trenton, to the one [undecipherable] there who is to forward them to you — The severity of the season has again impeded the navigation, and may probably detain them [some time] longer. Wish to know whether there is a pressing necessity for getting them on immediately. If there is, I must go to the expense [of] land transportation all the way.
