Pittsburgh 21st Jany. 1798
Sir,
I have rec'd yours of the 8th & 10th instant — Yours of the 8th had enclosed my power of Attorney, which I had executed yesterday in proper form, & returned it to you — The post who had remained a day later than the period when he should arrive Set out on his return immediately which gave me no opportunity of answering your letters fully — Yesterday mail carried my receipt on the [undecipherable] of the account of monies received from the Treasury —
Yours of the 12th enclosed a bill drawn by Capt. B. H. Harrison for 800 Dols. in favour of Colo. Sergeant — This sum you will Charge to me — Should there be any thing farther required you will point out the form & it Shall be done. —
Your remarks on my general return of Qr Master Stores I do not Comprehend — you State that there is a large deficiency of Articles unaccounted for by the QrMaster Genl. at Lorimes between Capt. Butlers return of QrMastr Stores on the 1st of January 1797 & the return made by me in September 1797 — I have not attempted to account for the QrMaster Stores in my General Return — It only exhibits the Stores on hands — We have not introduced a Column for the articles issued or transferred — the books of the post will show what has been done with those Stores whether issued or transferred to other Posts — But Generally Speaking, the most of the Stores at Lorimes were transferred to the detachments bound for the Tennessee & West Florida — Perhaps you will have more satisfaction from the return of QrMaster Stores which I transmit by next post to the Secretary of War — It is more compleat than the former —
am Sir with great regard
