It is true that Lewis [undecipherable] joined this rendezvous on the 13^th of December — but he was not re=ceived here. He was detached from Capt. Littlefield's Company at West Point & sent to me as a musician to my party— There did not therefore occur to me any impropriety of drawing his [underline: whole months] pay here in as much as he could not be mustered at West Point being absent from that garrison on the day of muster. My receipts for the pay=ment of Bounties are enclosed as usual. I have to repeat the question, in behalf of John Webster, which I asked in behalf of Charles Tinsley— Whether you have any documents by which you can ascertain what bounty he is entitled to— He speaks of having been discharged from Capt Bradley's Company at Green=ville about the beginning of the year 1795 prior to which he served six years — that he was in St. Clair's defeat &c. I am disposed to give some credit to his report of himself, because he has the appearance of a veteran, & has exhibited proofs of the wounds which he has received. Your very obed. ser^t D.
