I have to request that you will be pleased to inform me as speedily as possible every circumstance attending the Desertion of Nicholas Doyle who is reported on Major Tousards Muster Roll as having given himself up to you. The information that is most materially wanted is that of his Enlistment with whom he enlisted in what Company he served, the date of his Desertion & that of his surrendering himself up to you? I am the more pressed for this information in order to ascertain what pay is due to him & to report on the Pay of Major Tousards command.

In future however I could wish who ever pay money from this Department to other persons than those expressly directed, that you will forward with the receipt an order from the person authorized by me to receive the amount. you will readily conceive this to be necessary to prevent any difficulty in entering your account —
