Agreeably to instructions from the Secretary of War I have paid the noncommissioned Officers & Privates of the Detachment that arrived here on the second instant under the Command of Major Constant Freeman composed of Captain John Pierce's Company of Artillerists and Engineers and Captain Thomas Lewis's Company of Infantry up to the 30th of November last inclusive, together with the last four dollars of Bounty that became due to each of the Recruits on their Arrival at this Post — the sums paid to this de-tachment amount to fifteen hundred and nineteen dollars fifty cents which appears by the muster Pay and Receipts Rolls herewith transmitted and which you will be pleased to place to my credit on the books of your Office, as I presume I shall be charged by you with my [undecipherable] the Secretary of War for that amount.
