Pittsburg 22^nd December 1797 [P.H.] Agreeable to your letter of the 16^th of October I have paid into the hands of the Noncommissioned Officers and Privates of Captain Pierce's & Captain Lewis's Companies, the sums that appeared one severally for their Pay up to the 30^th of November inclusive together with four dollars bounty that became due to each Recruit on their being mustered at this post. The aggregate amount therefore paid to these companies is 1319¹²/100 dollars as appears by Muster pay & Receipt Rolls which I have by this days mail transmitted to the accountant of the War Department agreeable to your instructions. And in order to reimburse Mr John Weanshale for one thousand dollars received of him to enable me to pay these companies I have this day drawn on you at eight days sight for one thousand dollars for which draft be pleased to direct payment. Major Freeman embarked on board a small boat & descended the Ohio on the 18^th. The troops were then under orders to prepare for embarkation all the stores destined for Fort Macfee & Fort Washington being already on board & the river in fine order, but by a sudden change of weather the river was frozen over in the night of the 20^th but is probable will continue shut up till February. Major Freeman in order to be fitted up for his Journey made a Requisition for several Articles which I have purchased for him & a Bill of which you will find enclosed; on which you will see that Major Freeman has directed me to apply to you, Sir, for reimbursement of the amount, viz, 63⁸⁶/100 dol.
