Pittsburg 15th December 1797 Sir, Major Freeman’s Detachment is still detained here by the ice, which is this moment broken up & I expect in a few days the river will again be navigable. Major Freeman was prepared to set off by Land this morning but found the river impassable & therefore will embark with the Troops as soon as it is practicable.
