Dear Sir I shall not trouble you again for some time with my enclosures, for to morrow morning I leave this place — do therefore send the letter for M^rs Freeman to her as soon as possible. Capt. Lewis has arrived here, and paid me the money I lent him on the road you will not [strikethrough: notice] therefore take any of what I have written to you respecting it. I am induced to believe from a letter I have received from Eaton that he intends to publish either his tick or something to exculpate himself and injure the reputation of those officers whom he calls his enemies when he was in Georgia — He will do me the honor to rank me among the number and may says some things for the purpose of injuring me — I have to request my dear Sir, that, you would, should this be the case, do me the justice, to acquaint my friends, to convince others is of no consequence, that as far as my duty or business has been connected with your office, I have given entire satisfaction; to which you may add whatever praise I may in your opinion be entitled to, and which would be improper in me to dictate — I am greatly at a loss whether it would be best to send my trunk of papers immediately to Georgia I may be detained on the route — I would wish you would not send them until you hear from me again. I hope you will be so kind as to call and see your old acquaintance M^rs Freeman keep up her spirits until I can see her again — She has written to me that she has exacted a promise from you that you would use your influence with the Secretary that I might be permitted to come for her — If it can be consistently done it would be agreeable to me.
