Daniel Stevens Esq^r Supervisor Charleston South Carolina Accountants Office November 27^th 1797 Sir The Treasurer of the United States will remit you the sum of Six hundred thirty three Dollars and fifty two Cents which you will be pleased to pay to Cap^t Michael Kalteisen taking his duplicate receipts holding him accountable for the due application of the same being for pay of himself and the detachment under his command at Fort Johnston for September and October 1797 including Forage of Surgeons mate & Dulcho for the Same period. I am &c W Simmons Act^r David Henley Esq^t Q D Knoxville Tennessee Accountants Office November 27^th 1797 Sir I enclose you a letter addressed to Lieut Peter Marks of the 3^d Regiment, directing him to place in your hands for examination his account and Vouchers for expenditure of a large Sum of money he received from Cap^t Edward Butler for the recruiting Service, and any balance remaining unexpended to refund immediately to you, you will be pleased after perusing the letter to seal it and cause it to be delivered to him. — The Sum received from Captain Butler is 1773 Dollars. 230 of this sum was refunded by Ensign Smith leaves a balance of fifteen Hundred & forty three Dollars to be accounted for — he has also received three hundred Dollars from this Office on account of his Pay — you will as early as may be inform me of the situation of his accounts after he receives my letter I am &c W Simmons
