Application has been made at this Office for the arrears of pay due to Anson Williston late a private in your Company (deceased) Your accounts as Pay Master to the 2d Sublegt having never reached this Office it is impossible for me to ascertain with certainty the balance that may be due to him I have therefore to request you will state the amounts of pay in your hands due to him, that I may Compare the same with the Pay and muster rolls and ascertain the balance due him on the day of his death.

I received your letter of the 22d Septr last covering sundry papers amongst which were the receipt of Caleb Swan Esqr pay master General for Seven hundred thirty four Dollars and sixty two Cents with an account Current Stated by Mr Swan. I have given your account (as Captain in the fourth R Regiment) a credit for all the sums refunded to Caleb Swan & also the amounts paid by you to Lieut Marks & Ensign Smith which leaves a balance due by you on the account to the United States of Five Hundred forty five Dollars and Sixty five Cents which corresponds with what you make it. the balance appearing due from you as annexed being Three hundreds and forty One Dollars and thirty three Cents to each balance it is necessary
